SHM in New Quinsi Viaduct

SHM in New Quinsi Viaduct

Structural Health Monitoring

CalSens is carrying out a Structural Monitoring Health (SHM) project for the New Quisi Viaduct related to Calpe-Teulada section of the Line 9 of FGV Tram in Benissa, Alicante.

The centenary metal viaduct of Santa Ana will be replaced by this new construction. The new viaduct will be a concrete structure with a prestressed box section deck, made up of two 35-m end spans and six 50-m intermediate spans. The viaduct will be built using falsework sections in different construction phases.

Calsens has monitored the falsework and the viaduct structure using structural health monitoring through the construction phases. Once the new viaduct is in-service CalSens is carrying out a 36 month SHM project for the construction.

In this project the fiber optic sensor has allowed us to measure: i) unit strains of falsework steel elements, strains, board prestressed box strains, pile inclination and pile displacement. Also, a new “shape sensing” system developed by Calsens is being used to measure bridge deflections in real time.
